Core Modules
The HKTA/Prince Primary School Mini-Tennis Promotion Scheme 2009-10 is divided into the following stages:
1. School Visits & Demonstrations
2. Teacher Training Course
3. District Inter-Primary School Competitions
4. Annual Championships
5. Tennis Bridging Course
Stage 1 – School Visits & Demonstrations
HKTA-licensed coaches will make school visits and conduct onsite demonstrations to introduce the game to the teachers and students. The coaches can also assist in identifying players with potential, as well as providing the basic essentials for setting up mini-tennis training in schools.
Stage 2 - Teacher Training Course
In order to help primary schools develop their own mini-tennis teams, Mini-Tennis Instructor Training Courses will be organized for teachers to attend. The course content includes teaching techniques, coach-student relationship, motivation and goal-setting, etc. [Photo Gallery]
At the end of the course, teachers will be equipped with the required skill-set to formulate their own school teams and to make the necessary preparations for the mini-tennis competitions towards the latter stage of the programme. The HKTA will issue a Certificate of Attendance for all participating teachers at the end of the course.
Stage 3 – District Inter-Primary School Competitions
Participating schools are divided into 4 districts – Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, New Territories East and New Territories West. Participating students will play in their respective age group in the district competitions to qualify for a place in the Annual Championships.
Players who qualify to compete at the Annual Championships shall each be accorded a trophy and a Hong Kong Tennis Association issued Certificate of Merit.
Stage 4 – Annual Championships
To secure an invitation for the finale, players must possess a Top-4 (Top-8 for 32+ Draw) placing at the District Inter-Primary Schools Mini-Tennis Competitions, i.e. Hong Kong, Kowloon, New Territories East and New Territories East.
Events are divided into age groups for individuals ranging from 7 & Under to 9 & Under for both Boys' & Girls' Singles, as well as team competitions. The pair of schools with the highest point total based on their students' results in Stages 3 and 4 in both the Boys' and Girls' sections will be declared the overall Grand Champion / Runner-up for the year.
Stage 5 – Tennis Bridging Course
The Tennis Bridging Course acts as a "post-graduate" curriculum to facilitate a player's transition from the Mini-Tennis Promotion Scheme to other core modules such as the Junior Tennis Squad Programme and beyond. This process of continuity provides valuable opportunities for talented players with outstanding mini-tennis results to receive focus tennis training during the summer before embarking on more advanced programmes.
